blue bunting and others

Blue Bunting at Laguna Atascsosa NWR-possibly a first for Cameron County! It was hanging out near the visitor center.

Yojoa scrub-hairstreak found at NABA last weekend.

    Nice photo of the Blue Bunting and though a very nice find, it is not the first for Cameron County. The two latest that I can recall were a male Blue Bunting at Sabal Palm a few years back, '04 0r '05 when the Valley had that great winter that included multiple Crimson-collared Grosbeaks, an Elegant Trogon, a couple of White-throated Robins and a few Becards as well. This bird was seen by many visitors. The last was again at Sabal Palm in Feb or '08 when a female was present. The bird was pretty much a one day wonder and was only seen by four or five people.

  2. Thanks for the info. I wish we had been down here that year! I just got an email from the TX Birds Records Committee. They said there were a couple of records of Blue Buntings in Cameron County, but no photographs...until now :)

  3. Great pics! I love the Red Phalarope. I had a female Blue Bunting at Sabal Palms back in the mid nineties. Nice blog.
